This very special Mother’s Day message is from one of our Grace International School of Ministry students, Sister Rosa Yim.
A Vietnamese song always sung to children talks about how a mother’s love is ever flowing from an everlasting spring. You often don’t realize how much a mother’s love is, until you become a mother yourself. I experienced a strict parenting style growing up – but as an adult and mother you can understand why they made the decisions they did.
Key Verse: 1 John 5:1, 1 John 3:1 – How great is the love of God towards us.
Rod Stewart song – Have I told you lately that I love you. Have I told you that there is no one above you. As a parent, the love for your children is above all – except God. As a parent you are limited by how much they let you love them and show them your love – especially when they grow up – you can only help by how much they want your help or will accept your help.
Three Insights of God’s love:
1. God works for the good of those who love him (Colossians 3:12, Ephesians 1:4-5, Ephesians 2:18)
Through Christ all can come into one spirit through Christ. Through Christ we can receive all of His love and help – if we choose him. Romans 8:28 – in all things God works for the good of those who love him.
2. God will make the outcome good
If you have received God’s Word to action something and you have the faith to trust Him, then God will make the outcome good. In all things God works for good. The oil lamps used in Bible times were just enough to illuminate a few steps ahead. Just as when God shows us His plan it is enough for us to walk on in faith and not stumble but it may not show the entire road. When faced with difficulties we have two choices: to complain or trust God. When we trust in God, do the best we can and have a thankful heart the challenges faced are not repeated and are resolved quickly. The challenges we face today will prepare us for the times ahead – know it is part of God’s plan. Walk on in faith.
3. God has faith in us
God allows us to make our decisions but we are accountable for our own decisions. While God allows us the choice it pains God’s heart to see us carrying heavy load. He is waiting for us to ask God for help.
The best parenting book was already in my hands, the Bible, as God sets the best example of how to be a parent. Two verses that stood out to me: Psalms 127:3 and Ephesians 6:4. I see these two verses to mean that just as God makes it clear how much He loves us, I must make it clear to my kids that they are blessings from God, that they are to be treasured and loved at all times. And because they are so precious and our skills are new we need to ask for help from God to look after these treasures.
My goal then as a parent is to encourage them through love, discipline and instruction. This should be guided by God, the Holy Spirit and His love.

If you would like to accept Jesus into your heart please pray the following prayer.
“Dear God, I am a sinner and need forgiveness. I believe that Jesus Christ shed His precious blood and died for my sin. I am willing to turn from sin. I now invite Christ to come into my heart and life as my personal Saviour.”
If you have just prayed this prayer and accepted Jesus as your Lord and Saviour, congratulations! We invite you to contact us as we would love to pray a blessing over your life and help guide you on your journey.
The next step. As a way to grow closer to Him, the Bible tells us to follow up on our commitment.
- Get baptised as commanded by Christ.
- Tell someone else about your new faith in Christ.
- Spend time with God each day. It does not have to be a long period of time. Just develop the daily habit of praying to Him and reading His Word. Ask God to increase your faith and your understanding of the Bible.
- Seek fellowship with other followers of Jesus. Develop a group of believing friends to answer your questions and support you.
- Find a local church where you can worship God.
God bless you.
