This message is from guest speakers Pastor David and Elizabeth Seeto, pastoral leaders at River of Life church.
Key Verse: Proverbs 18:21
(Matthew 12:36-37) Words are much more important than people realise. According to the teaching of the Bible, words can destroy or build us up. What we spoke yesterday makes our life what it is today. Words bless us or curse us, words heal us or make us sick (Proverbs 16:24). We have to learn to make our words work by filling our words with faith and love.
Atmospheres are created by words. When you cook a steak the smell lingers in your house so you have to open all the windows in the house to get rid of the smell. Likewise when you go into a room where harsh words have been spoken the effect also lingers in the atmosphere, the air is filled with tension and hurt feelings. The antidote for this is creating a more relaxed atmosphere by speaking words of wisdom, faith, encouragement and love.
A lot of believers do not know the power of our words and they blame God when trouble comes, but often the reason why bad things occur is because of the wrong words they have spoken over themselves. Job 3:25 in this case Job opened his mouth and opened the door to let the devil come in and make what Job feared come to pass. We need to be speaking positively.
Some believers only talk about how they fight with the devil, how the devil defeated them, and how they always have failures. This is not the way to live a victorious life. Instead we should all be talking about the goodness of God, the good things God is doing, all He has done, the truth that Jesus defeated the devil and the greater One lives in us to make us a winner. Take every opportunity to tell a testimony of God’s goodness. If we talk about the devil we are magnifying him and more of his presence will be in your life. However if we talk about Jesus we are magnifying Jesus then His presence will surround you all the time.
An example regarding healing: You have pain in your body and after receiving prayer for healing you believe that you received healing for this condition. When people ask, ‘how are you feeling?’ reply with ‘I believe by Jesus’ stripes that I am healed.’ When you say this you are not magnifying the symptoms and are not nullifying the healing power of God. If the symptoms persist visit the doctor. If the doctor prescribes you medication, take the medication, but every time you do say ‘thank you Jesus this medication will help my body.’ Doctors are here to help us, but our faith and trust is in our great healer Jesus Christ.
(Colossians 1:27) By the power of the Holy Spirit Christ is dwelling in us. How do we release the Holy Spirit to work on our behalf? It is done by faith. If you are a believer you can lay hands on the sick and they shall recover. Don’t just depend on the Pastor or Five-Fold ministry to pray for the sick, you as a believer can pray also. If we do our part, God will do His part.
I want to encourage you to speak what God speaks. When everything you speak is positive and according to the Word of God, you will see that your life will be changed. Death and life is in the power of your tongue.

If you would like to accept Jesus into your heart please pray the following prayer.
“Dear God, I am a sinner and need forgiveness. I believe that Jesus Christ shed His precious blood and died for my sin. I am willing to turn from sin. I now invite Christ to come into my heart and life as my personal Saviour.”
If you have just prayed this prayer and accepted Jesus as your Lord and Saviour, congratulations! We invite you to contact us as we would love to pray a blessing over your life and help guide you on your journey.
The next step. As a way to grow closer to Him, the Bible tells us to follow up on our commitment.
- Get baptised as commanded by Christ.
- Tell someone else about your new faith in Christ.
- Spend time with God each day. It does not have to be a long period of time. Just develop the daily habit of praying to Him and reading His Word. Ask God to increase your faith and your understanding of the Bible.
- Seek fellowship with other followers of Jesus. Develop a group of believing friends to answer your questions and support you.
- Find a local church where you can worship God.
God bless you.
