This blog post is Part 2 of Pastor Kay’s sermon, click here to read Part 1 “Prosper in Times of Famine”.
Key Verse: Genesis 26:12
Earlier in the year I talked about an investment expert who wrote an article in The Australian Newspaper. In this article, Robert Gottliebsen, mentioned three economic tsunamis. Now is the time to work out your survival strategy.
The three economic tsunamis, shaking the middle class and businesses:
- Car Industry: Holden, Ford, Toyota closed factories in Australia.
- Mining Industry: Gas, coal and iron construction is winding down.
- Retail Industry: When people lose their jobs people spend less.
There are other areas in employment growth. Look for work or investments that are supplying the top or bottom levels of society.
For this season the areas of employment are:
- Health and age care services
- Tourism
- Dairy
- Infrastructure
- Delivering parcels online stores
- And many more areas of employment growth.
As believer’s we live in God’s economy. God protects and gives us warnings. An American pastor once told people to pay off their debts and save money so when the time comes you can pick up bargains. Both the economists of the world and God’s people seem to see that something big is going to happen. Whether you believe this or not, I believe there is no harm in preparing for the future. I believe that as New Testament believer’s this is how we should prepare ourselves.
How we can prepare for the economic tsunamis and come out on top:
1. By Prayer (Jeremiah 33:3)
When we stay close to God in prayer we hear His voice. He can show us great and mighty things. (Acts 10:9-13) Like a radio has to be tuned in to a particular frequency to hear the station, prayer tunes our ears to hear the voice of God. We need to pray so we can hear from God. Prayer it is not just a list of requests, it is waiting on God. Also, praying in tongues makes your spirit sensitive to the voice of God so you can hear from Him. In times like these we need to hear from God.
2. By Revelation (Exodus 15:23-25)
In our life journey we can face disappointment and hardship but if we cry out to Jesus He can give us a revelation to help us turn bad situations into good. Even when we face economic tsunamis He can open doors that no man can close, but we need to hear from God. Because all of our needs are different we need to get a revelation from God for our own situation, we need to hear from God ourselves.
3. By Sowing (Genesis 26:12-13)
In time of famine Isaac sowed. Isaac lived under God’s economy if you don’t sow you don’t have harvest. The reason why he continued to grow and prosper was because he continued to sow. The more Isaac sowed the more he received. Therefore in times of economic uncertainty we need to continue to sow because we are making God our source and our provider. Ecclesiastes 11:1-2. The most important thing is to give to God’s Kingdom. We want to be like Isaac coming out of the famine being very prosperous for the Kingdom’s sake.
At the beginning of the year I shared on the three Tsunamis and I felt the need and urgency to share it again today. As we enter 2015 be prepared, draw close to God and see what He says to you.

If you would like to accept Jesus into your heart please pray the following prayer.
“Dear God, I am a sinner and need forgiveness. I believe that Jesus Christ shed His precious blood and died for my sin. I am willing to turn from sin. I now invite Christ to come into my heart and life as my personal Saviour.”
If you have just prayed this prayer and accepted Jesus as your Lord and Saviour, congratulations! We invite you to contact us as we would love to pray a blessing over your life and help guide you on your journey.
The next step. As a way to grow closer to Him, the Bible tells us to follow up on our commitment.
- Get baptised as commanded by Christ.
- Tell someone else about your new faith in Christ.
- Spend time with God each day. It does not have to be a long period of time. Just develop the daily habit of praying to Him and reading His Word. Ask God to increase your faith and your understanding of the Bible.
- Seek fellowship with other followers of Jesus. Develop a group of believing friends to answer your questions and support you.
- Find a local church where you can worship God.
God bless you.
