Key Verse: Psalm 127:3-5
Behold our children are our heritage. Children are gifts and rewards from God – they are our inheritance, they are not burdens. Verse 4-5 – Children are like an arrow in the hands of a warrior as you need to train them up and you can direct them on the right path. The more children, the greater the blessings to the parents!
Begin the training when they are infants and then they will be used to listening to your voice and guidance – don’t’ begin when they are older. Our strength is limited and we can’t be there all the time for our children – that is why we need to hand over our children’s protection over to God as He is all-knowing and omnipresent and will be there with them all the time. If we train our children in the ways of the Lord, they will be able to form a personal relationship with God and they will be able to call out to God in times of trouble.
3 ways to pray for our children:-
1. Pray with fervency and intensity (1 Samuel 1:11)
Hannah was barren and miserable, so she cried out to God and made a vow that if He gave her a child, she would dedicate the child to God to fulfill His will. We need to pray with such intensity and fervency for the protection and well-being of our children.
2. Turn our concern and worry into praise (Philippians 4:6)
Pray with thanksgiving. Instead of telling our trouble and concerns to friends, hand it over to God and with thanksgiving give praise to God for the needs you desire for your children. Change the way we pray for our children.
3. Pray without ceasing (Romans 1:9)
Paul prayed continuously for his spiritual children in Rome. Do not lose faith or give up on the things you pray for your children. Sometimes it takes time for God’s promises to come to pass – stay faithful. Example – prodigal son – The prodigal son had fallen so low and was destitute and eating with the pigs. So he returned back to his father – not expecting to be welcomed back as a son – but hopeful to be accepted as a servant. The father was so overjoyed that he ran to his son when he returned home and welcomed him back. The father never gave up on his son and always carried him in his heart. God also carries us in His heart praying continuously for His people – He is always there with us, waiting for us to turn to Him.
Pray with faith and don’t give up.

The next step. As a way to grow closer to Him, the Bible tells us to follow up on our commitment.
- Get baptised as commanded by Christ.
- Tell someone else about your new faith in Christ.
- Spend time with God each day. It does not have to be a long period of time. Just develop the daily habit of praying to Him and reading His Word. Ask God to increase your faith and your understanding of the Bible.
- Seek fellowship with other followers of Jesus. Develop a group of believing friends to answer your questions and support you.
- Find a local church where you can worship God.
God bless you.
