This is the second blog in the Holy Spirit series. If you missed the first message “Holy Spirit is a Person” read it here.

Key Verse: John 14:16-18

Before Jesus died on the cross He told His disciples that He would send to them another Helper, someone who is the same as Jesus, the Holy Spirit.

What is the ministry of the Holy Spirit?

Today I will be discussing 2 main points of His ministry.

1. Holy Spirit has the ministry of revelation

Jesus was sent to reveal the Father to us, but the Holy Spirit was sent to reveal both the Father and Jesus to us (John 1:18).
Just as man’s spirit knows what man truly thinks, only Holy Spirit knows the thoughts of God. Holy Spirit was given to us that we might know the things of God, His power, His presence and His love for us (1 Corinthians 2:12). The Holy Spirit has been freely given to us because Jesus already paid the price. God sent His Holy Spirit so He can reveal Himself, His Word, and His plan to us so that we can have the power to live a successful Christian life and understand the great blessing and inheritance He has given to us.

The Holy Spirit also revealed Jesus to us.
John 15:26 says Holy Spirit came to witness for Jesus. Holy Spirit will guide you into all truth. Holy Spirit will take what is of Jesus and declare it to us (John 16:13-14). We can get to know Jesus and have fellowship with Him through the Holy Spirit. Holy Spirit speaks to us in spiritual languages e.g. vision, dreams, audible voice, small silent voice, and prophecy. When we read the Bible we can get a quickening of the spirit. A quickening of the spirit is when we read the Bible or whenever Jesus speaks to us and we can sense the anointing. It is then that we know and realise that this is a Word from God.

In November 1993 my husband (Pastor Danny) and I received a Word from an American pastor, Pastor Vernon Falls, to start a new work. I prayed and turned to the Word of God to confirm that this is the will of God. That is when I received a quickening of the spirit while reading Genesis 26 and realised that Pastor Danny and I were to start this church. God is not dead. He is still speaking to us today.

2. Holy Spirit has the ministry of building the Church

Matthew 16:18 – Upon this rock (Petra), the confession of Peter that Jesus Christ is the Son of the Living God, Jesus built the Church so the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. We know that Jesus is the head of the Church and the Church is His body. Today Jesus is directing the Holy Spirit to build His Church, because Holy Spirit takes what is from Jesus and declares it to us.

Holy Spirit is the One who is responsible for building the Church. In Acts 2 Holy Spirit gave birth to the church and baptised all the believers into the body of Christ. All the disciples were vessels used by the Holy Spirit who led, guided, and empowered them to evangelise to the world. We are also vessels to be used by the Holy Spirit. If we die enough to ourselves, then Holy Spirit can take more of us. The Holy Spirit is still leading and guiding us today.

If you would like to accept Jesus into your heart please pray the following prayer.
“Dear God, I am a sinner and need forgiveness. I believe that Jesus Christ shed His precious blood and died for my sin. I am willing to turn from sin. I now invite Christ to come into my heart and life as my personal Saviour.”

If you have just prayed this prayer and accepted Jesus as your Lord and Saviour, congratulations! We invite you to contact us as we would love to pray a blessing over your life and help guide you on your journey.

The next step. As a way to grow closer to Him, the Bible tells us to follow up on our commitment.

  • Get baptised as commanded by Christ.
  • Tell someone else about your new faith in Christ.
  • Spend time with God each day. It does not have to be a long period of time. Just develop the daily habit of praying to Him and reading His Word. Ask God to increase your faith and your understanding of the Bible.
  • Seek fellowship with other followers of Jesus. Develop a group of believing friends to answer your questions and support you.
  • Find a local church where you can worship God.

God bless you.
